FinancialRBS has taken the City by surprise by releasing its results a week early because they were so good. The bank said it had a duty to update the market on its better than expected performance. Pre-tax profits stood at 2-point-7 billion pounds in the first six months of the year - up 92 per cent on the same time a year ago.

NewsUp to 200 people evacuated in Derbyshire - so police could carry out a series of controlled explosions in a nearby flat - have been let back home. They cordoned off the area in Newhall following the discovery of so-called 'potentially volatile' substances. One of them was so dangerous, it had to be taken a mile away to be destroyed. A 55 year-old man's in police custody.

ShowbizVentriloquist Keith Harris says he's lost 7-million pounds throughout his career through dyslexia. The 66 year-old - best known for performing alongside the puppet Orville the Duck - has told a magazine he was duped into signing contracts on poor terms because he couldn't read them. Harris is continuing to perform despite recovering from cancer.


Trent Sport

SportIt's been a great day for some of England's women at the Commonwealth Games. Laura Trott wouldn't let a kidney infection stop her winning a cycling gold medal, while Fran Halsall clinched her second Glasgow 2014 success in the swimming. For Scotland, the youngest Games competitor in the nation's history won a bronze, as 13-year-old Erraid Davies finished third in her swimming final.

Emperor Rosko brought his Atlantic style to BBC Radio 1 in the 1970s and was highly successful. Trent Sound has his new radio programmes 'L A Connection' on Saturdays 14.00 - 16.00 & 'Coast Country' on Sundays 11.00 - 13.00, only on Nottingham's Trent Sound.
