A man and his daughter-in-law are believed to have been killed in a suspected gas blast. Nottinghamshire Police say they believe 71 year old Leslie Rourke and Jeanette, aged 40, died following the explosion at a terraced house in Newark yesterday.

The Church of Scotland has voted in favour of allowing openly gay men and women to become ministers. The General Assembly has backed a motion affirming the Church's traditionalist standpoint BUT permitting liberal congregations to opt out of its policy on homosexuality.

The issue of gay marriage in England and Wales is being debated ahead of a vote tomorrow. Labour and the Government have signalled they are ready to work together to defeat a backbench effort to wreck the legislation in the Commons.

Internet giant Yahoo has agreed a deal to buy micro-blogging site Tumblr in a deal thought to be worth around 723 million pounds.
